More MEWsings

I’ve been reflecting on the beauty and depth of experience I witnessed and was immersed within at Carnegie Hall’s Summer Music Educators Workshop.

I received one particularly delicious morsel of feedback: my work is fluent in both the pedagogical and experiential / energetic realms. I’ve been leaning more explicitly into the latter in recent years, and it feels great to bring that balance of spirit-infusion into an “academic” space, and practical understanding and application of tools through experiential approaches.

For example, I had participants lead circlesongs, then deconstruct how the practice develops embodied leadership, deep listening and real-time responsiveness, presence, compositional best practices, and most importantly: self-trust.

I felt such a profound sense of flow in leading workshop modules at SMEW, which led me to reflect a lot on alignment: tuning into what it evokes in my body and energy field:

🙌🏽 Alignment = expansion, groundedness, and flow.
😵‍💫 Misalignment = Sisyphean effort, overthinking, analysis of paralysis.

Which brings me to my #monthofmantras challenge on Instagram.

My weeklong experience at SMEW showed me that I ultimately don’t feel aligned to make music alone in my room on camera, when my gift zone is making music with others in person.

However, I’m glad I’ve been doing it and braving that particular wilderness, and being witnessed by you all in my messy, fun, creative exploration. Enjoy my #MonthofMantras reels here.

There may be more Reels coming when I am inspired to share, but the music that is calling to me now requires a longer, deeper incubation and creative process.

I’m grateful for the evolving versions of my favorite mantras to come!

My work serves holistic-oriented women committed to moving beyond fear and emotional stuckness to voice their truth, expressive arts enthusiasts whose souls are deeply nourished by community vocal rituals, spiritual eclectics who embrace wisdom from a wide variety of sources, or some combination of these.

Through structured group improvisation and vocal embodiment practices, I facilitate sound healing sessions, workshops, private vocal empowerment coaching, retreats, and concerts that “a-ha!” you to new levels of self-discovery, emotional freedom, joy and creative flow. I am a partner artist at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute as a core member of the vocal improvisation ensemble, Moving Star.
