Onome at Rosie's Theater Kids



Onome is a New York City-based, Nigerian-American artist who has studied with Bobby McFerrin, jazz vocalists Carla Cook and Rihannon, experimental vocalist Meredith Monk, and Opera Ebony founder Wayne Sanders. With writing and music as her primary tools, she give performances and workshops focused on spiritual liberation, self discovery, community building and empowerment through creative expression. Onome is the artistic director for Lush Tongue, a project that uses vocal improvisation and an eclectic, globally multicultural repertoire of music from women composers. She is a core member of Moving Star, a vocal improvisation lab at Carnegie Hall. She has toured with Neil Young as a member of Reverend Billy and the Stop Shopping Choir, and sung at international conferences with the environmentalist ensemble Aklima. She also co-hosts a popular monthly improvisational vocal gathering called Sounding NYC. She recently completed her first year of the Performance and Performance Studies MFA Program at Pratt Institute.
